Artist Bio:

Born in Hamilton. New Zealand, Shannon Black has been creating experimental fine art photography for over 30 years. With a Bachelor of Visual Arts from The Queensland College of Art in Australia, Shannon has established a distinct style characterized by layered imagery and rich color. Her works have been showcased in numerous exhibitions and publications across the world.

Inspired by film and cinematography, Shannon creates photographic collages that evoke a mood and tone that is both eerily sombre and peacefully calming. Through a combination of paint, light, and the still image, Shannon crafts works that are both visually stunning and emotionally impactful.

Shannon currently lives in California, USA.

Artist Statement:

My work explores the interplay of light, shadow, and texture to evoke a sense of longing and quiet melancholy. I find inspiration in the beauty of decay and the passage of time, using layered imagery to create dreamlike and evocative scenes. Whether I am capturing a vast desert or a dense cityscape, my process is a search for the balance between the ordinary and the extraordinary.

Even in a crowded city, I am drawn to the feeling of solitude - the quiet friction between the world we see and the internal landscapes we carry. By blending technical observation with surreal elements, I aim to connect with viewers on a visceral level, inviting them to sit with that specific, haunting feeling that you can’t quite grasp the name of.
