The Studio
Reconstructing the Moment
The Shannon Black Studio is a study in cinematic atmosphere. We don't just document landscapes; we reconstruct them. By blending traditional photography with digital gestural layers, we capture the restless energy of the urban grid and the heavy silence of the desert. Our work exists at the intersection of grit, light, and geometry.
The Living Collection
The Studio operates on a principle of constant evolution. To maintain a focused narrative, the gallery is strictly limited to 20 active works. As new reconstructions emerge, existing pieces are withdrawn to the Studio Vault. While these works may occasionally re-emerge for limited periods, their availability is never guaranteed, ensuring the collection remains as dynamic as the landscapes it captures.
The Studio Standard
Every piece in the collection is more than a photograph; it is a physical object constructed with archival longevity and cinematic depth in mind.
The Silver Halide Process We utilize a traditional Light-Sensitive Silver Halide development process on Fuji Crystal Archive paper. Unlike standard inkjet printing—which sits on top of the paper—this process uses a chemical reaction to bake the image into the fibers.
The Result: Unmatched color depth, velvety blacks, and a continuous-tone finish that eliminates the "dots" of digital printing. It is the gold standard for museum-grade display.
The Art of Reconstruction
Shannon’s work begins in the field and is finalized in the studio. Each piece undergoes a process of digital reconstruction—layering light artifacts, gestural textures, and color-theory adjustments to bridge the gap between a raw moment and a cinematic memory.
Hand-Crafted Presentation
Art of this scale requires a structural anchor. We select our framing profiles to complement the cinematic weight of each image.
The Large Scale Series:
Our 27x37" exhibition pieces are finished in a commanding 2.25" gallery-depth frame, creating a bold, architectural profile that sits off the wall with a significant physical presence.
The Studio Collection:
Our standard sizes utilize a sleek, modern gallery profile, ensuring every piece—regardless of size—is delivered ready to hang with museum-quality hardware and UV-shielding acrylic.
The Commitment
We believe art should be an anchor. In a world of fleeting digital files, our studio is dedicated to the physical object—museum-grade materials, hand-crafted finishes, and chemistry that lasts for generations.
The Artist
Shannon’s work is shaped by a career spent at the intersection of film, marketing, and the California creative industry. This is the story of the eye behind the reconstructions.
